Gus has held several ministerial positions throughout his political career, most recently as minister for the Cabinet Office (2001-2003) where he supported the prime minister in leading the Government and co-ordinating the transaction of its business through Cabinet Committees.
He also oversaw Cabinet office work on the reform and delivery of public services, better regulation and civil contingencies.
Previously, Gus was the minister for transport (1999-2001), in attendance at Cabinet, responsible for aviation, maritime, road and rail transport.
